Long Time, No See

Posted in Personal, Site News on January 10th, 2010 by Joe

I just realized that it’s been over six months since we last posted, so I want to let everyone know that Anna and I are still here and we’re both doing well.

I know I’m going to forget to mention something here, but some good things have definitely happened since the last post:

  • Anna, as we mentioned before, graduated in July 2009 with her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.  In August 2009, Anna began working as a full-time occupational therapist at a local rehab hospital.
  • I am finally a college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree.  I finished college classes in July 2009, and I walked in my commencement ceremony in September 2009.
  • In October 2009, I was promoted to applications programmer at work, so I can now say that I am a full-time programmer again.
  • We attended a very cool Motor Trend Car Show in November 2009, but alas, our camera was out of commission.  A highlight for me was seeing a real DeLorean in person.
  • We’ve caught a few shows and concerts over the last several months thanks to House Seats (which I highly recommend for any Vegas residents).

Basically, we’ve been pretty busy with life in general, work, and whatever else has come our way.  I’ll try to post more frequently so that everyone doesn’t think we’ve fallen off the face of the earth.  See you next time.

This is as funny as that time when that thing happened…

Maggie posted a link to this and I thought it was sooooooooooo funny I had to share it with my friends and family.  Enjoy!

56 worst/best analogies of high school students

  1. Her eyes were like two brown circles with big black dots in the center.
  2. He was as tall as a 6′3″ tree.
  3. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.
  4. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.
  5. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
  6. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
  7. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
  8. He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame. Maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
  9. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
  10. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.

I actually graduated a few weeks ago but since I wasn’t ACTUALLY a graduate I didn’t want to post my pictures yet. NOW I am done with all of my school work and just waiting on the registrar to give me the ok. On July 13th I will OFFICIALLY have my Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from Touro University Nevada! YAY! Go me! Two years, thousands of hours of studying and a few new gray hairs later and I am ready so begin my new career!

New York City – June 2009

Posted in Fun Stuff, Photo Updates on June 25th, 2009 by Joe

Due to work, I have had the opportunity to visit New York City.  I’ve had a week of meetings to attend, but I have been able to spare some time to explore a bit.  Of course, I have my camera with me and I have been taking a lot of pictures.  Feel free to take a look at the album below.  It’s been a fun experience, and I cannot wait to return when I can bring my wonderful wife with me (who I’ve missed a great deal while I’ve been away).

Joe’s 29th Birthday

Posted in Fun Stuff, Personal, Photo Updates on June 13th, 2009 by Anna

We went out this past Friday night for Joe’s 29th birthday. We decided to go to Hofbrauhaus because it has good food, great beer, and a pretty fun atmosphere. Last night had more of a German frat party feel than normal, but at least it was entertaining (nothing quite like an oompa band play “sweet Caroline.”) Here are a few pictures from our night out for Joe’s last 20-something birthday!

Anna Turns 30!!!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 27th, 2009 by Anna

WHAT AN AWESOME BIRTHDAY!!!
My loving husband went above and beyond for this one. What a way to ring in 30! First off he took me out to eat at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse which is one of my favorite places. Nothing quite like a perfect steak and some sautéed mushrooms to make a girl swoon! THEN he took me to a surprise party he had set up at…get this…Prive. It’s one of those fabulous Las Vegas clubs that host birthday parties for Paris Hilton and the like. A girl in my class is married to a guy who is a golf pro. He knows the guy who owns the club and was able to not only get us VIP entrance to the club, but also bottle service. For those who don’t know (which included me up until Friday night) it is where you purchase a bottle of vodka or other liquor which includes a table in the VIP section (places to sit are hard to come by in Vegas clubs) as well as security for your section (who will also escort you to the bathroom by plowing through the crowd), your own waitress and porter, and all the mixers you could want for your drinks. Bottle service runs between $300 and $500 per bottle depending on where you go. Because of our guy who knew a guy we got comp’ed (however you spell that) TWO bottles!!! Needless to say I felt pretty special. Then on my actual birthday he sent me flowers at work (although the company that was stupid and won’t actually get the flowers there until tomorrow) and brought me my birthday cake of choice…pecan coffee cake. All of this on top of helping bring Maggie out here for a week. I am so blessed to have a husband who goes to the ends of the earth for me! Here are a few pictures from one of my last nights in my 20’s!

The Gobles Visit Vegas!

Posted in Family, Vacations on April 25th, 2009 by Anna

The Georgia Gobles came to visit us for their 30th anniversary. What a blast! Unfortunately I had fieldwork so I couldn’t really hang out during the week. Joe had most of the week off for Passover so he was able to take them around and show them the sites.

Here they are at Red Rock Canyon, the M&M store, and the Wynn Hotel. Read more »

Nicole’s Birthday

Posted in Uncategorized on March 23rd, 2009 by Anna

This past weekend Joe and I attended a very fun party celebrating Nicole’s birthday. It was held at a local Japanese restaurant that has private rooms specifically for…wait for it…karaoke! Here are some pictures from our tone-deaf night.

The past few months…

Posted in Family, Fun Stuff, Photo Updates on March 8th, 2009 by Anna

So holy crap we have been busy! Let’s begin with…
our visit to the east coast. Everything started out wonderfully. We began at my dad’s house and got to catch up with two of my sisters. We also got to go catch up with all of the RAYD folks and had a blast.
